Bach in the Royal Staircase

Museum Escher in Het Paleis, The Hague

With Maciej Wierzchołowski, harpsichord. Music includes Bach Solo Sonata in a minor, Corelli sonata in g minor, improvised variations on ground basses, and klezmer from the Beragophsky collection.

The fluidity of the baroque ornamentation, the gradual transformation of variation, and motives taken for a journey, can all be heard as musical counterparts to the world of Escher, while the Klezmer is a homage to the Jewish roots of Jessurun de Mesquita, the focus of the new exhibition.
